Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis head coach Greg Harkins added three student-athletes for the 2012-13 season during the recent NCAA early signing period.
The three signees to join the squad are Sophie van den Aarssen (Aarle Rixtel, The Netherlands), Melissa Burckhartt (Houston, Texas) and Bailey VanDyke (Montgomery, Texas).
The Cajuns will welcome van den Aarssen in the Spring 2012 semester. She brings five star credentials to the program with a top 50 singles and top 25 Dutch ranking. A native of The Netherlands, van den Aarssen also considered Baylor and Texas Tech.
Burckhartt, a four star recruit from Houston, recently pushed to No. 119 on Tennisrecruitng.net and No. 12 in the state of Texas. She has had success in doubles and singles play as a winner of Texas Super Championship Major Zone competition. She is the 2010 5A State Doubles Champions and Co-Player of the Year.
VanDyke, also a four star recruit from the state of Texas, recently peaked at No. 110 on Tennisrecruitng.net and is currently No.14 in Texas. She has two Texas Grand Slam championships to her credit and is the winner of the USTA Nancy Jeffett Sportsmanship award.
“We couldn't be more excited that these ladies have chosen to be part of the Ragin' Cajuns program,” Harkins said. “They all have tremendous work ethics on court and will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact in the lineup.
“More importantly these ladies will be leaders in the classroom and great representatives of the program,” Harkins added. “They had many choices for their collegiate experience and we are honored to have them committed to the University of Louisiana.”
