Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team finished out a tough weekend on the road Sunday as they fell to Stephen F. Austin 3-1 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The Cajuns (3-3-0) lone goal came from sophomore Cayla Chatman early in the second half.
UL gave up two first half goals, both to Jordan King, both on penalty kicks in the 21st and 40th minutes.
Chatman pulled the Cajuns within one early in the second half. The sophomore put a Courtney Hofland through pass into the back of the net in 49th minute to make the score 2-1. The goal was the first of the season for Chatman. However, the Ladyjacks (3-3-0) would add a goal soon after, in the 55th minute to bring the score to 3-1.
The assist by Hofland gives her three on the year and 10 for her career, which ties her for first place on the Cajuns all-time assists list. The helper also gave Hofland her 44th career point, which is tied for first in Cajuns history with teammate Kelli Jestes.
The Cajuns were out shot in the match 19-8. However UL did make the most of their shots as they fired off six shots on goal while SFA put seven on goal. Chatman led the Cajuns with three shots, all of them coming on goal.
Amanda Moorefield (3-3) started the game in the net for the Trojans. The sophomore played the first half and made one save but gave two penalty kick goals. Lauren Berlingo came into goal at halftime and made three saves in the second half while giving up just one goal.
The Cajuns return to action on Friday when they host Nicholls State at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. Kickoff between UL and the Colonels is set for 7:00 p.m.
