Cajuns Come Up One Goal Short at Denver

An 81st minute score from Chelsea Balestra wasn't enough as the Ragin' Cajuns soccer team fell to Sun Belt front-runner No.25 Denver by a final score of 2-1 on the road on Friday night.
The senior netted her fourth goal of the season and third in seven days, but it came after the Cajuns (6-6-0, 1-2-0) already trailed 2-0 to the nationally ranked Pioneers.
Amanda Moorefield had quite a night as she set a career high with 13 saves, five better than her previous best. The Pioneers posted 15 shots on goal while the Cajuns only tested Denver's goalie Lara Campbell three times. The match marked just the third time this season that the Cajuns posted less shots on goal than their opponent.
UL surrendered a quick goal as Kalie Vaughn scored less than three minutes into the match. Denver (9-2-0, 3-0-0) increased their lead to two thanks to a 66th minute strike from Kristen Hamilton.
The Cajuns would cut the deficit in half when Allison Baker took a shot on Denver's goal that was stopped by Campbell, but Balestra was the first player to the rebound and put the loose ball into the back of the net.
Balestra, Courtney Hofland and Kayla Henrie all posted two shots for the Cajuns on the night.
The Cajuns continue their Sun Belt road trip on Sunday when they travel to Denton, Texas to take on the Mean Green. UL and North Texas are set for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
