Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team used a strong second half to knock off UALR at home by a score of 2-0 on a hot Sunday afternoon.
The Cajuns (8-7-0, 3-3-0) only managed one shot of goal in the first half, but put five shots on goal in the second frame with two of them getting past the keeper.
Courtney Hofland got the Cajuns on the board first when she placed a 67th minute strike past UALR goalie Jane Picarelli. Sophomore Cayla Chatman found Hofland in the box who then put UL on top 1-0.
Hofland's goal was her second of the year and 19th of her career, placing her one goal behind teammate Kelli Jestes for Cajuns career lead.
Kennedy Richards gave the Cajuns an insurance goal in the 80th minute. Richards place a free kick from Megan Riley in the goal to give UL their final two score margin. The score was the first of year for Richards.
"We didn't start well in the first half and that continued throughout the entire half," said head coach Scot Wieland. "I'm very proud of how well we came out in the second half and took the momentum."
Amanda Moorefield went the distance in goal for UL, recording her fourth shutout of the season while posting three saves. The Cajuns have posted six shutouts as team, tying a school record.
The Cajuns outshot the Trojans (5-10-0, 1-5-0) on the day, 17-6, including 6-3 in the shots on goal category.
The Cajuns return to the pitch on Friday when they travel to Middle Tennessee to take on the Blue Raiders at 7:00 p.m.
