Cajuns' Comeback Falls Short

After battling back late in the second half, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team was unable to defeat UALR as the Trojans were able to walk away with a 3-2 win on Sunday at the UL soccer field.

The Cajuns grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 9th minute. After corner kick, Chelsea Balestra was able to find Brooke Perry in the box. Perry was able to beat Jane Picarelli in front of a crowed net for the early score. The score was Perry's first of her UL career.

UALR's Kristen Semko was able to knot the score at 1-1 mid way through the first half. Semko's shot from outside the box was able avoid a diving Lauren Berlingo and find the top left corner of the goal.

The Trojans came out scoring quickly in the second half. Christina Veasley fired a shot the was deflected by Berlingo. Dana Pearson was able to redirect the rebound back towards the goal for a 2-1 lead.

UL was able to fight it back late in the second period to even the score 2-2. Kayla Henrie scored her first career goal after receiving an assist from Cayla Chatman and Chelsea Balestra.

But UL was unable to hold off the Trojan's attack as Dana Pearson notched her second goal on the day after an assist from Taylor Gabbert and Kristen Semko in front of the Cajuns' net.

In the loss, Berlingo recorded 13 saves. Kelli Jestes led all UL players with three shots on goal. Balestra was credited with two assists for the match.

The Ragin' Cajuns (0-11-1, 0-4-0 Sun Belt) will return to action on Oct. 9 against FIU in Miami, Fla.
