MONROE ?Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country team ended a two-week wait to start their seasons on Saturday competing in the 2008 ULM Warhawk Invitational here Saturday morning at Chenault Park Golf Club.

 

Hurricanes Gustav and Ike canceled the Cajuns home meet on Sept. 5 and a trip to Louisiana Tech Sept. 13, respectively. Saturday marked the squads' first day of competition for the 2008 season.

 

Both squads turned in fourth place finishes and the highlight was seeing two Ragin' Cajuns women finish in the Top 10 and four of the men's runners ending in the Top 25 with freshman Alex Breaux placing fourth.

 

In the team competition, the UL men were 1-2 in the dual-scoring format, besting Northwestern State (21-38), but falling to ULM (41-20), and Grambling State (33-23). The Cajuns' women were 2-1 defeating ULM (26-29) and Northwestern State (26-29). The women's only loss was to Grambling State (34-21).
 
 

Junior Paula Parker (20:29.81) finished sixth and Junior Ashley Faulk (20:32.61) finished seventh out of 45 runners to pace the Cajuns' women with Top 10 finishes.

 

The top UL men's performer was Alex Breaux ended the meet 41 seconds off the lead. Breaux placed fourth with a time of 26:34.97.

 

Sophomore Reese Lee completed the men's 8k in 27:26.42 taking home a 14th place finish ? the top performance for the men. Joining Lee in the Top 25 were senior Joby Gisclair in 20th place with a time of 28:25.69 and freshman Stuart Theriot in 23rd place with a time of 28:28.80.

 

The UL men placed fourth with 90 points. The UL women also took a fourth place finish tallying 87 points.

 

The Ragin' Cajuns' next meet will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 as the men and women travel to Baton Rouge for the LSU Tiger Cross Country Festival.
