Men?s Tennis Falls to TAMU-CC, 4-3

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Monday night in their final regular-season match of the season. The loss dropped the Cajuns to 7-11 on the year.

The match was tied 3-3 after singles action. TAMU-CC picked up an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while UL also won 8-5 at No. 2. The Islanders 9-8 win at No. 3 doubles decided the victor.

“It came down to the doubles match,” men's coach Mark Jeffrey said. “We lost a tiebreak 7-5 at No. 3 doubles. It was the greatest match of the year.”

In singles play, freshman Piotr Olechowski defeated Laurent Montoisy in three sets at No. 1. Olechowski won 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Piotrek Banas topped Mikhail Pavlov 7-6, 6-3 at No. 2. Junior Arlen Domoney had the third win for Louisiana. Domoney bested Jaume Farras 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 4.

The Cajuns will compete at the Sun Belt Conference Championships beginning on Friday, April 18 in Monroe, La. Match times are to be announced.
