Ragin? Cajuns Edge Lamar in Pitcher?s Duel

BEAUMONT, Texas-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team concluded their four-game road trip with a 3-1 win over Lamar on Tuesday night a Vincent-Beck Stadium.
The Cajuns improved to 30-12 with the win, while the Cardinals dropped to 27-17.
Starting pitcher Brent Solich (4-0) earned the win tossing 7.0 innings. Solich allowed just one unearned run on five hits. The southpaw did not allow an extra-base hit on the night. Solich fanned five batters without issuing a walk.
Gregory Harmon picked up his second save of the season in relief of Solich. Harmon scattered two hits in 2.0 innings of work. The sophomore right-hander fanned three batters without allowing a walk.
Offensively, the Cajuns tallied just five hits on the night, but scratched out three runs en route to the two-run victory.
Jefferies Tatford was the only Cajuns player with more than one hit in the game. Tatford finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Matt Hicks, Kolin Hatfield and William Long all collected hits in the game. Hatfield and Hicks had the Cajuns only extra-base hits as both doubled in the game. Hicks scored a run while driving in another.
Long singled and scored a run, while Devon Bourque added a run scored as well.
Lamar was the first team to scratch the scoreboard. In the fifth inning with one out, the Cardinals got a base runner as Brian Lloyd reached base on a fielding error by the Ragin' Cajuns. A ground out moved Lloyd to second base, and a second error of the inning gave Lamar runners on the corners. A hit batter loaded the bases and the second hit batsman of the inning plated the first run of the night. A ground out ended the inning, but saw the Cajuns trailing 1-0 after five complete innings.
The Cajuns answered in the sixth inning. Long started off the inning by being hit with a pitch. After the sacrifice bunt attempt by UL was unsuccessful, Hicks doubled to left field to score Long from first base. With the score knotted at 1-1, Tatford singled to right centerfield to score Hicks from second. The Ragin' Cajuns were unable to generate anymore offense in the inning, but led
The score remained 2-1 until the top of the eighth inning. Long singled through the right side of the infield to lead off the inning for the Cajuns. Bourque reached on a fielder's choice, but an error by the Lamar shortstop allowed Long to reach second base safely. Hicks attempted to lay down the sacrifice bunt, but the Cardinals opted to erase the lead runner. Tatford grounded out to move Bourque and Hicks both into scoring position. A wild pitch allowed Bourque to score, giving UL a 3-1 edge.
The score would remain 3-1 as Harmon entered the game to keep the Cardinals at bay.
