Cajuns Complete Sweep

LAFAYETTE - Louisiana's 15^th ranked Ragin' Cajuns completed the weekend sweep against Sun Belt Conference foe Western Kentucky on Sunday at Lamson Park with a 2-0 victory. The Cajuns improved to 32-7 and 7-2 in conference play with the win. WKU dropped to 13-18 overall and 2-4 in SBC play.

The contest started as a pither's duel between UL's Brittany Cuevas and Western's Jennifer Kempf, as the game was scoreless through the first 3 ½ innings of play.

Cajun right fielder, Desi Chatman, broke the ice in the bottom of the fourth inning, as she led off the inning with a home run off the light pole in right centerfield, her fifth of the season. At the end of four complete innings of play, Louisiana took a 1-0 lead.

Lousiana added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 2-0. Codi Runyan walked to lead off the inning. Pinch runner, Courtney Trahan, advanced to third on a WKU error, after a Lana Bowers sacrifice bunt. Trahan scored from third on a Tara Hamilton sacrifice fly to right field.

Cuevas left the game in the top of the fifth after being hit on the right foot by a line drive and Shari Sigur entered to pitch the final 2 1/3 of scoreless ball for the Cajuns. Cuevas earned the win, improving to 20-4 and Sigur was credited with the save, her second save of the season.

Kempf was the losing pitcher for WKU, after tossing a complete game and giving up four hits to the Cajuns. Kempf drops to 7-10 with the loss.

Karli Hubbard led Louisiana at the plate with two hits. Chatman and Hamilton added hits for the Cajuns.

The Cajuns step out of Sun Belt Conference play on Wednesday as they entertain Southland Conference opponent Northwestern State in a 4:00 P.M. doubleheader at Lamson Park.
