The Aggies improve to 2-0, while the Cajuns drop to 0-2.
Texas A&M started the second half with a bullying 13-play, 53-yard drive that consumed 6:28 off the clock. TAMU converted two fourth downs on the drive.
Jarvorskie Lane scored on an eight-yard run ? his fourth touchdown of the game ? to give the Aggies a commanding 38-7 lead.
A near interception by Torres Kingsby tipped off the junior cornerback's hands and into the arms of receiver Joey Thomas for a 56-yard touchdown, pushing the Aggies led to 44-7.
The Aggies accumulated 496 total yards, compared to just 171 by the Cajuns.
TAMU scored 31 unanswered points to start the contest. The Aggies first five possessions all resulted in points.
On their opening drive, the Aggies benefited from a short 33-yard punt by the Cajuns. TAMU used eight plays to cover 45 yards in 3:26, scoring on a one-yard run by Lane.
The Cajuns second punt covered 39 yards, but a 14-yard return started the Aggies second drive in Cajuns territory once again.
TAMU needed seven plays to cover 47 yards en route to their second touchdown. Lane again put the finishing touches on the drive, scoring from two yards.
Brit Framel's third punt covered 38 yards and was fair caught, giving the Aggies the ball on their own 29-yard line.
The Aggies had no problem with the extended field position, driving 71 yards on 10 plays in 4:13. Stephen McGee hit a wide-open Chad Schroeder with a 15-yard touchdown pass. The Aggies converted two third downs on the drive, marking five consecutive third downs for TAMU.
The Cajuns offense was disrupted by constant pressure from the Aggies. UL managed just 34 yards over their first four drives on 14 offensive plays. TAMU finished the game with three sacks and countless quarterback hurries.
A Jerry Babb fumble gave the Aggies the ball at the Cajuns 37-yard line.
The first play from scrimmage saw a 32-yard pass from McGee to Lane. Lane followed-up with a five-yard scoring run, giving TAMU a 28-0 lead with 10:23 remaining in the second quarter.
Framel's fourth punt was a 52-yard boot, but a 14-yard return placed TAMU on the Cajuns 47-yard line. The Aggies moved the ball down to the 24-yard line, but three straight incompletions led to the Aggies first fourth down. Matt Szymanski converted the 35-yard field goal to extend the Aggies lead to 31-0.
On the Cajuns sixth drive of the night, backup quarterback Michael Desormeaux entered the game to start the drive. UL faced a third-and-one after Tyrell Fenroy rushed for a pair of yards and Desormeaux completed a 7-yard pass to Phillip Nevels. Desormeaux kept the ball on the option and gained 36-yards to move the Cajuns into Aggies territory for the first time.
Three straight rushing plays earned the Cajuns a first down at the 17-yardline and a personal foul moved the ball to the eight. On the ensuing play, Desormeaux faked the handoff and peeled around the left side, diving into the end zone for a touchdown. Drew Edmiston's extra point attempt was good making the score 31-7 in favor of the hosts.
The Ragin' Cajuns are open next week, before facing North Carolina A&T on Sept. 23 in the 6th Annual Herbert Heymann Classic at Cajun Field. Kick-off for all Cajuns home games is 4pm.
