Cajuns Flip the Script, Storm Past Southeastern

Louisiana notches second straight win and provides Kristi Gray with her 200th career victory
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team rallied after dropping the opening set to Southeastern, taking control over the final three frames to earn a 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16) victory on Thursday, September 3 at E.K. Long Gym in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic.
The come-from-behind triumph sealed the 200th career victory for head coach Kristi Gray and moved the Ragin' Cajuns (2-2) to 2-0 on their week-long homestand which wraps up Saturday, September 5 vs. Memphis.
Louisiana used a balanced attack and a strong defensive effort at the net to overcome the early deficit. The Ragin' Cajuns finished the night with a .191 hitting percentage, 50 kills, 11 blocks and five service aces while holding the Lions (0-4) to a .128 hitting percentage.
Sarah Schnell led the way offensively for Louisiana, recording a match-high 15 kills while adding four block assists. Lolo Lambert followed with 12 kills and 12 digs for a double-double, while Harley Krause contributed seven kills and four other Cajuns contributed multiple kills.
Setter Rhyan Miciotto contributed four kills and directed the offense with 32 assists and added four service aces.
Lindsey Henry anchored the Cajuns at the net with a match-high eight blocks while Kennedy Gustafson posted a match-high tying 13 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southeastern grabbed the early momentum in the opening set, rallying from a 19-14 deficit and fending off a late Louisiana response. The Lions closed the frame on top, 25-22, despite 12 Louisiana kills.
The Cajuns answered in the second and avoided a two-set deficit after another Lions mid-frame surge. After SLU used a 5-1 run to cut the lead to 18-17, UL received a timely kill from Harley Krause to maintain the lead and sided out each of the five times the Lions pulled back within one down the stretch.
The momentum continued in the third set, as Louisiana limited Southeastern to a .000 hitting percentage. With the defense holding down the Lions offense, UL was able to storm out to a 13-6 lead – an advantage which ultimately stood, giving the Cajuns the match lead.
The Cajuns left little doubt in the fourth, immediately scoring five straight points after SLU took the opening rally. Louisiana hit .367 (14 K, 3 E, 30 TA) in the final set, piling up 14 kills while committing just three attack errors. UL also posted a 75% side out percentage in the final frame.

The Ragin' Cajuns have a day's rest on Friday before closing out the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic with a 1:00 p.m. match vs. Memphis on Saturday, September 5.
After Saturday's contest, Louisiana embarks on a five-match road trip that starts in Tallahassee, Florida with a midweek match at Florida State (Sept. 9) and the Florida A&M Tournament (Sept. 10-12).
