LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team saw their three match unbeaten streak come to an end as they fell, 3-2, to Denver in their conference opener.

With the loss, the Cajuns fell to 3-4-2 on the season and 0-1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.  The win improves the Pioneers to 5-2-1 on the year with a 1-0-0 SBC mark.

Denver took a 2-0 lead in the first half and withstood a second half Cajuns' charge to hold on for a 3-2 win.

In the first half, the Pioneers scored a goal with nine and a half ticks off the clock.  Lleane Grimditch scored her third goal of the year to give Denver a 1-0 edge over UL.

The goal broke a streak of over 300-minutes (312:42) of scoreless soccer for the Cajuns.  It marked the first goal Stephanie Weston had allowed in 309:24 of time at the net.

After the first goal, rain started to fall making field conditions slippery and slowing down both teams.

Despite the rain, Denver added another goal 23-minutes into the match.  Jenna Billingsley took a pass and shot from point blank range for the score.

In the second half, the Cajuns fought back.  UL scratched the scoreboard with just under-10 minutes gone in the half.  Emily Black was fouled in the box resulting in a Ragin' Cajuns' penalty kick.

Senior captain Lindsay Webb remained perfect for her career in penalty kicks as she scored the goal for the Cajuns.  Webb is now 4-for-4 lifetime on PKs.

With the lead cut to 2-1, Denver added an insurance goal at the 64-minute mark.  Grimditch scored her second goal of the match to extend the Pioneers' lead to 3-1.

The Cajuns continued to battle and with just under four minutes remaining in regulation, UL cut the lead to one.

Stephanie Lynch took a pass from Courtney Hofland and split a pair of Pioneer defenders.  Her shot was just under the cross bar in the back left corner of the net.

The goal was Lynch's second of the year, while the assist was number three for Hofland.

UL was unable to score the tying goal and fell by one to Denver.

The Ragin' Cajuns dropped to 0-8-1 all-time against the Pioneers and 0-3-1 against DU in Louisiana.

Weston took the loss for the Cajuns, but the sophomore keeper did record six saves on the night.  Weston's save total is now up to 56 on the year and 141 for her short career.  One hundred and forty-one saves is just three shy of tying Anne Corbello for second place on the Cajuns all-time saves list.

The Ragin' Cajuns will resume action on Sunday, Sept. 24, as UL takes on North Texas in a conference match at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
