With the shutout, the sophomore moved into sole possession of first place in the UL annals with seven shutouts.
Offensively, four different players scored a goal on the night for the Cajuns.
Four goals in one match is the most goals the Cajuns have scored since downing Nicholls State 5-0 in Lafayette on Sept. 19, 2004, and the most UL has scored on the road since Sept. 3, 2004 when they took a 4-1 victory over McNeese State in Lake Charles.
“We played very well tonight,” head coach Scot Wieland said of the match. “We played a complete match ? offensively and defensively ? which is what we need before starting conference play.”
On the season, 10 different Ragin' Cajuns players have scored at least on one goal compared to just seven players who netted goals in 2005. UL has already scored 12 goals on the season in just eight matches, compared to just 15 goals all season a year ago.
UL scored a pair of goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Senior captain Meghan Crawford netted her first goal of the season to get the Cajuns on the scoreboard.
Freshman Emily Black added a goal in the first half to increase the Ragin' Cajuns lead to two goals. Stephanie Lynch recorded her first assist of the season as she added the helper on Black's goal.
In the second half, the Cajuns continued to shine. Erika Saffer took a pass from Black off of a corner kick and slipped it past the Cowgirls' goalie for her second goal of the season.
Junior Kat Bergeron finished out the scoring for the Cajuns, as she scored the first goal of her UL career.
“It was a great match for us to play,” Wieland added. “We did a good job tonight of getting people in position to score and putting the ball in the net.”
The Cajuns and Cowgirls mirrored each other with the number of shots attempted. The Cajuns took 11 shots with seven shots on goal. Likewise,
