Cajuns Cruise in Record Setting Win

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns jumped out on the Golden Panthers early in the first half and never looked back as they won 3-1.
The win gives the Cajuns (
UL's victory ties the 2004 team for the most wins in a season.
“I was happy with our effort this weekend,” head coach Scot Wieland said of his team. “I am extremely happy with their new found confidence.
“Anytime you can put the bookend on a great Cajuns weekend, I am very happy to do that,” said Wieland referring to UL's volleyball, football and soccer all winning over the weekend. “We held up our end.”
The Cajuns scoring started early as UL scored a pair of goals in a 30-second span to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cajuns' Dannae DeVahl took a pass from Taylor Zak in front of the goal and put the ball in the back of the net for UL's first goal of the match.
Exactly 30-seconds later, Callie Oliver stole a pass from one of the FIU defenders and fired a shot from the top of the box. Oliver scored to push the score to 2-0.
DeVahl's goal was the first of the season and the second of her career. Her last goal came in the Ragin' Cajuns 2005 season opener against
The goal by Oliver was the third for the sophomore this season.
In the second half, Taunya Geelhoed scored a goal on a free kick to give UL a 3-0 edge. The goal was her first of the season after leading the Cajuns in goals scored in 2005.
In the 85th minute of the match, Florida International scored a goal to put the Golden Panthers on the board, but it was too little too late for FIU.
In the first half, the Cajuns took less shots than Florida International but made their shots count. Of the six shots UL took in the first half, four were on goal, including the two goals scored by the Ragin' Cajuns.
