Cajuns Return Home With 15-6 Downing of McNeese

LAFAYETTE-The Cajuns returned to their winning ways Tuesday night at Moore Field setting the tempo early by taking advantage of a pitcher who couldn't find the strike zone. Louisiana-Lafayette held off a three-run ninth inning to take the game by a 15-6 final.
Patrick Green notched the win for Louisiana-Lafayette surrendering two runs off of four hits through the first six innings in the game. Green (2-1) fanned nine Cowboys in the outing.
Ronnie Baron took the loss for McNeese State walking four and hitting one of the first six batters he faced in the ballgame. Baron (0-1) walked in the two runs for which he was charged.
The Cajuns put two on the board in the bottom of the first when Josh Landry walked and Justin Bourque was hit with a pitch. Phillip Hawke drew a free pass on a full count before starter Ronnie Baron walked in the first run of the game as Dallas Morris took four straight offerings outside the strike zone. Ryan Core walked to score the second run of the game.
McNeese Coach Chad Clement pulled Baron for Walt Nolen with one out in the first. Nolen induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Charlie Kingrey singled to left before Shawn Yarbrough reached second on a pair of Cajuns fielding errors that put Kingrey on third. Green sat the last two outs in the inning by way of the strikeout.
For the
second time in as many games, the Cajuns saw an opposing
participant tossed from the contest. Cowboys Assistant Coach
came out of the dugout to argue balls and strikes with the
umpire behind the plate and was ejected.
Kevin Preau walked on four straight offerings before Coker
reached first on a fielder's choice. Coker took second on a
balk. Justin Merendino walked and stole second.
Bourque singled in the two base runners, putting the Cajuns up 4-0.
UL Lafayette scored again in the bottom of the third on a Micah Cockrell sacrifice fly ball to center that plated Morris. Morris singled to center to reach base before Core singled to the same spot, putting runners on the corners.
Kingrey made it a 5-1 game with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth.
Merendino doubled down the line in left and took third on a wild pitch. Landry's sacrifice fly to left was deep enough to score Merendino.
Nolen sat the Cajuns in order in the bottom of the fifth.
Kingrey went deep for the second time in the game in the top of the sixth making it a 6-2 contest.
Landry doubled down the first base line with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Bourque was plunked for the second time of the night putting runners on first and second.
Hawke drove in a run on a line drive single to right before Morris scored two more with a triple off the wall in center. Core kept the hitting going with a two-run shot over the wall in center increasing the Cajuns lead to 11-2.
Jeff Morgan entered the game to work in the top of the seventh and retired the Cowboys side in order.
A Landry single up the middle in the bottom of inning seven plated pair of runs after one-out singles from John Coker and Merendino put runners on the corners for the Cajuns.
Chad Carnahan scored for McNeese after singling and advancing on a wild pitch and a balk. Carnahan scored on a ground ball out to third bringing the score to 13-3.
The Cajuns added two more in the bottom of the eighth inning on a balk and a sac fly after Morris and Core reached on an error and a walk.
McNesse scored three runs in the top of the ninth on five hits including a triple, a ground-rule double and a pair of singles before Kraig Schambough came on in relief to end the game at 15-6.
Louisiana-Lafayette will travel to Beaumont, TX tomorrow night to face the Lamar Cardinals. Game time from Vincent-Beck Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
