Six Run Fourth Vaults Cajuns Over Seawolves 7-3

LAFAYETTE- A six run outburst in the bottom of the fourth would be the difference in the game as the Cajuns take game two by a score of 7-3 Saturday at Moore Field in Lafayette.

Kraig Schambough improved to 2-0 with the win for the Cajuns going eight innings giving up three runs on five hits while striking out ten.

Reliever Kris Bakey took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning while surrendering three runs (two earned).

Matt Devins singled into left to start the top of the first with two gone for the Seawolves, but Second baseman Justin Merendino flashed outstanding leather to get Cole Cicatelli at first to get out of the inning.

Stony Brook struck first when designated hitter Nick Theoharis drew a walk to open the second and advanced to third on a double by Isidro Fortuna. The two baserunners came around to cross the plate on a Kevin Solana triple to right. Solano was brought in on a ground out to the first base side. With Solano's run, Stony Brook took a 3-0 lead.

Schambough sat the side down in order in the bottom halves of the third and fourth innings.

The Cajuns would answer mightily in the fourth as Justin Bourque doubled off the right field wall to start the outburst. Hawke drew a walk. Rodriguez smacked a single to left center to load the bases with no outs Micah Cockrell reached second on a throwing error that also scored a run for the home team. Catcher Ryan Core doubled to left center scoring Cockrell and Rodriguez. The Cajuns didn't stop there as Merendino slapped a single to score Core. Centerfielder John Coker doubled to right advancing Merendino to third who scored on Josh Landry's sacrifice RBI to left. When all was said and done, the Cajuns took the lead 6-3.

Schambough retired the Stony Brook side at the plate in the top of the fifth.

Dallas Morris homered with one out in the bottom of the sixth adding a run and bringing the score to 7-3.

Thad Montgomery pitched a flawless ninth in a non-save situation in order for the Cajuns to captiure their fouth win of the season.

Stony Brook will play the season finale here tomorrow. Game three is set for 12:05 p.m. at Moore Field.
