LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team closed out its three-match homestand here Sunday afternoon at Cajun Field playing to a scoreless draw with McNeese State.

Freshman goalkeeper Anna Brannon collected her second career shutout stopping six MSU scoring chances. MSU goalkeeper Toni Deason equaled Brannon's performance picking up her first shutout of the season while making seven stops.

The scoreless draw marked the Cajuns first tie of the season and was the first tie in a home match in program history.

Louisiana-Lafayette was shutout for the second straight match and the fourth time this season. The Cajuns last played to a scoreless draw Sept. 27, 2002 at South Alabama.

UL Lafayette (4-3-1) outshot McNeese (1-5-1) 14-12 and had a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.

The Cajuns were playing the match without their leading goal-scorer Tiffany Garber who was sidelined after suffering an ankle injury in the LSU match Friday.

Both teams had a chance in the opening frame to put a goal on the board but couldn't cash in. UL Lafayette's Lauren Schwindt, inside the box on the right wing, sent a pass to Lindsay Schwind in the middle of the box but her shot was fended off by McNeese defenders and out of harms way.

Later in the half, McNeese's Amy Meyer broke away from a Cajun defender and had a one-on-one situation but Brannon slid in and blocked the shot.

In the second half the Cajuns missed two chances to take the lead. Melissa Barger was in perfect position on a free kick from Sherryl Owens but her header sailed over the cross bar. Marielle Phillips was wide open inside the box and had Deason, who had slid out for the save, beat but could not get the shot off the ground as it rolled into Deason's arms.

In the 76th minute UL Lafayette's Lauren Schwindt was issued a red card and ejected from the match. As a result, the Cajuns were forced to play the final 14 minutes of regulation and both overtime periods shorthanded.

The Cajuns return to action Friday, Sept. 26 in a 7 p.m. match in Tuscaloosa, Ala., against the University of Alabama.
