Cajuns Face Off With Northwestern State Friday

Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003

NATCHITOCHES - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team looks to exact revenge for three years worth of frustration here Friday afternoon as the Cajuns face off with homestanding Northwestern State in a 4:30 p.m. match at the Demon Soccer Complex.

Three times the Cajuns and Demons have met and three times NSU has come out on the winning side outscoring the Cajuns 15-6. Last season, the Demons spoiled UL Lafayette's Cajun Field debut taking a 4-2 win.

Friday's match will provide the Cajuns with an opportunity to pick up their first win in the series and remain unbeaten on the opponent's home field this season. The Cajuns took a 2-1 overtime win at Nicholls State last Wednesday.

Louisiana-Lafayette (2-2) is coming off of a 2-0 loss to Southern Mississippi last Sunday in the regular season home opener.

The Cajuns will be looking to get the offense back in gear. Since scoring 10 goals in the season opener, the Cajuns have found the back of the net just twice and have been shutout twice.

Nine different players have combined to score the Cajuns' 12 goals with a trio of three players leading the way with two goals each. Lafayette natives Ainsley Breaux, Ashley Delahoussaye and Tiffany Garber have each scored twice.

Northwestern State (1-3) is coming off of its first win of the season. The Demons topped Grambling State 5-0 Wednesday for that elusive first victory.

NSU has struggled offensively this season tallying just one goal in the three matches before the Grambling win and have been shutout twice this season.

The Demons will be playing their second home match of the season and are seeking their first home win.

The Cajuns are 0-1 all-time in Natchitoches falling 6-2 on Aug. 30, 2000, in the first match in program history.

Following Friday's match, the Cajuns will return home Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against Louisiana-Monroe at Cajun Field for the beginning of a three-match homestand.

Sunday's match with ULM has been designated "Youth Soccer Day." All area youth soccer players are welcomed to attend and will be admitted free of charge provided they are wearing their team's uniform.
