Rocky Capello, a successful coach in the Louisiana High School ranks, joined the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field/Cross Country staff in March 2021 after a successful five-year stint at Southeastern Louisiana. Capello, who helped SLU set school-records in five events during the 2020 Indoor season, will work with the Ragin' Cajuns distance runners. 

Capello capped off his tenure in Hammond in February 2021 by helping guide the Lions to its first Southland Conference Men's Cross Country title in school history. SLU's 67-point margin of victory was the second-best in league history while Shea Foster became the second Lion runner to win individual medalist honors after he set an all-time Southland Conference record with a time of 22:41.16 in the 8K race. The Lions placed five runners in the top-15, including first-team runners Foster and Grant O'Callaghan. 

A native of Ascension Parish and a graduate of Nicholls State, Capello helped the Lions and Lady Lions' set school records in the men's and women's distance medley relay, the women's 800m, 3k and 5k during the 2020 indoor season.

Prior to coaching at SLU, Capello was the head coach of the cross country and track and field programs at Ascension Catholic High School. During his six years as coach at ACHS, his teams won eight state championships and had eight state runner-up finishes. 

He was named the Baton Rouge Area Metro Coach of the Year five times and his athletes won 28 individual state championships and set five class state records.

Capello graduated from Nicholls in 1990 with a B.A. in Government before graduating with a Juris Doctorate from LSU Law School in 1993.
