Freddie Glover, a native of Lafayette and former Ragin' Cajun runner, begins his fifth season as an assistant coach at his alma mater. In his current role, Glover serves as the Ragin' Cajuns sprints and hurdles coach.
Glover was instrumental in the development of sprinter Hanoj Carter, who earned All-America honors in the 100-meter dash at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Carter, who established a school record in the indoor 60-meter dash (6.75 seconds) in 2015, set an indoor school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.00 during the 2017 campaign.
During the 2016 season, Glover was instrumental in the performances of both Carter, the Sun Belt Conference Indoor champion in the 200-meter dash, and Alena Hrusoci, the SBC Outdoor champion in the 400-meter hurdles.
During his first year on the UL coaching staff, Glover helped guide the sprinters to three runner-ups finishes at the Sun Belt Conference meet while producing one NCAA regional qualifier.
His 4x100-meter relay team in Carter, Tyler Hughes, Devin Davis and Jeryl Brazil qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships after finishing 10th overall at the 2015 NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., and posting the fifth-fastest time (39.89) in school history.
Before joining the UL program, Glover spent the previous six years as the sprints and hurdles coach of both the boy's and girl's program at Northside High School, where he revamped a below average track team into a Louisiana prep powerhouse.
During his tenure at Northside, the team earned numerous boys and girls district championships and claimed nine combined indoor and outdoor state championships, with two nationally-ranked athletes.
Glover lettered at UL from 1999-2003 under head coach Charles Lancon. During his time at UL, Glover was involved with many on-campus and nationally recognized organizations such as Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., UL Student Government and NAACP.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University in 2005 and established a Lafayette-based printing company, Super Inks.
Glover is Level 1 certified by the USATF Association. In addition, he has held key positions in track and field event promotion, management, and coordination on the local, state, and national levels.
Glover and his wife, Ingrid, live in Lafayette and are the parents of two daughters, Aniyah and Ava.
