Louisiana hosts Warhawks for Louisiana Salutes Weekend
LAFAYETTE – Coming off a 9-3 win over in-state opponent Southeastern on Tuesday, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team returns to Sun Belt Conference play beginning Friday when it hosts UL Monroe in a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 6 p.m. The series continues on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the series finale set for Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games will be available on ESPN+ with fans able to listen locally on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Tickets for Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball are available for purchase on-line at RaginCajuns.com/tickets or by calling the Louisiana Athletics Ticket Office at (337) 482-GoUL (4685).
The series with ULM (14-12, 4-2 SBC) is also part of Louisiana Salutes Weekend, honoring those who have served or are currently serving in the military and offering special ticket rates through Vet Tix.
Saturday's game is also part of the America250 national initiative in cooperation with Lafayette Consolidated Government – celebrating the United States' 250th anniversary and a nationwide commemoration recognizing the people, places, and events that have shaped our country's history and future.
Louisiana (17-8, 2-4 SBC) returns to SBC play, looking to bounce back from a three-game sweep at Texas State last weekend. The Ragin' Cajuns snapped their three-game skid, improving to 7-0 in midweek games this season after scoring six runs in the fourth inning against SLU before Josh Lim's three-run home run in the seventh gave Louisiana insurance.
Freshman Sawyer Pruitt (2-1, 1.42 ERA) will earn the start in Friday's opener for Louisiana with southpaw Andrew Herrmann (3-1, 3.20 ERA) expected to pitch on Saturday. Sunday's starter for the Ragin' Cajuns is to be determined.
Another member of Louisiana's talented freshman class – Colt Brown – leads the team with a .322 average and nine doubles. Lee Amedee (.306) is second on the team in doubles (8) while leading the team in both triples (2) and on-base percentage (.444).
After earning a three-game sweep of Texas State two weeks ago, ULM has dropped three of its last five games, including two of three last weekend at South Alabama. The Warhawks lead the SBC and are 17th nationally with a .323 batting average while leading the country in doubles (69).
Seven regulars in the lineup are hitting .338 or higher on the season with Davis Mauzy (.398-1-20) leading the way. Dayne Wray (.370) leads the team with seven home runs while Jake Haggard (.352) has driven in 37 runs to rank second in the league.
Freshman Adam Brodnax (1-1, 3.76 ERA) will start in Friday's opener for ULM with a pair of left-handers – Brandt Corley (1-1, 6.49 ERA) and JC Dermody (4-1, 6.75 ERA) – taking the mound in the final two games.
