Balan's Marathon In Singles Clinches 4-3 Louisiana Win Over Lobos

Landreth, Tramolay clinch doubles as Cajuns earn split in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – Darius Balan outlasted New Mexico's Alberto Perez in a three-set marathon, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), to clinch a 4-3 victory for Louisiana on Saturday at Red Raider Tennis Stadium.
 
Louisiana (3-3) secured the doubles point and won the bottom three singles matches to earn the win over New Mexico (3-6).
 
Mason Landreth and Leonard Tramolay sealed the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Perez and Jakub Prachar at No. 1. At No. 3 doubles, Balan and Nikola Kolyachev added a 6-4 victory against Dario Ciobotaru and Philip Bosin.
 
Gianluca Filoramo extended Louisiana's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Connor Dils at No. 6 singles. New Mexico (3-6) responded with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to even the match.
 
Kolyachev put Louisiana back in front at No. 5, winning two tiebreakers in a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) decision over Tyler Waddock.
 
Ciobotaru rallied from a set down to defeat Landreth, 0-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), at No. 1 singles, setting the stage for Balan's clincher at No. 4.
 
Louisiana continues its road swing next weekend at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions, which begins Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas.
