Both teams enter Thursday’s 8 p.m. contest at Reed Arena following season-opening victories

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team faces its first road test of the season on Thursday, November 5, visiting Texas A&M for an 8:00 p.m. game at Reed Arena in College Station, Texas.

The contest airs on SEC Network, with radio coverage on The GOAT 103.3 FM and 1420 AM.

Louisiana (1-0) makes the quick turnaround two days after opening the season with a 77-72 victory over Xavier (La.) at the Cajundome. Thursday's game begins a stretch of three consecutive trips to the state of Texas as the Ragin' Cajuns play on the road through November 19.

Junior college transfer Malaya Jones scored 16 points to lead UL in its opener, while timely defensive pressure helped secure the victory. The Ragin' Cajuns forced turnovers on four consecutive Xavier possessions inside the final four minutes, continuing the disruptive play that produced at least 25 turnovers in each of their two exhibition games.

That defense faces a Texas A&M team led by graduate transfer Kailyn Gilbert, who scored 30 points in the Aggies' 77-54 season-opening victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday.

Both teams enter Thursday's matchup seeking a 2-0 start.

The meeting is the first between Louisiana and Texas A&M since November 2017, when the Aggies claimed an 83-62 victory in a Preseason WNIT contest at Reed Arena.

THINGS TO KNEAUX
  • Two days after opening the season at home, Louisiana makes its road debut in College Station.
  • UL and Texas A&M meet for the first time since a 2017 Preseason WNIT contest held at Reed Arena.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns play the first of three straight road games in the state of Texas – a stretch which keeps the squad away from the Cajundome until November 19.
  • JUCO transfer Malaya Jones led in scoring in her Ragin' Cajuns debut, producing 16 points in the season-opening win over Xavier (La.) including five game-sealing free throws in the final 1:34.
  • Freshman Bailey Timmons debuted with 14 points and a team-high tying eight rebounds. Including exhibition play, Timmons – who impressed in preseason practice – has started each night.
  • UL averaged 58 rebounds per game and forced the opposition into 25-plus turnovers per game combined in exhibition games with LSU Alexandria and Mississippi Christian.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns roster for the 2026-27 season is a near-even balance with six returning players from last season's roster and nine newcomers.
  • The core group returning is highlighted by Preseason All-Sun Belt selection Imani Daniel, the team's leading returning rebounder (170 boards) and the SBC's top scoring freshman by average (12.7 ppg) in conference play last season.
  • Other familiar faces joining Daniel include: leading returning scorer and offensive threat Mikaylah Manley (419 points in 2025-26), fellow 300-plus point freshman scorer Amijah Price, three-point shooters Kahlen Norris and Jazmyne Jackson and a fully recovered Arionna Patterson.
  • Highly regarded JUCO guards Malaya Jones (Trinity Valley CC) and Kennedi Johnson (Tyler JC) provide additional experience in the backcourt while 6-foot-plus additions Aminata Sowe and Kayllis Walker bring a newfound physical frontcourt presence not seen since Ty Doucet in 2021-22.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA

One year after meeting for the first time ever, the Ragin' Cajuns and Lions convene in Commerce for the first time.

Louisiana will conclude the string of three straight games in Texas on Monday, November 16 taking on UTSA in San Antonio.
