Louisiana Follows Manley’s Lead to SBC Victory over Coastal Carolina

Mikaylah Manley scores career-high 25 points, leading Ragin’ Cajuns in scoring both halves

LAFAYETTE – Charged by a career-high 25 points from Mikaylah Manley the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team broke into the win column in Sun Belt play with a 69-66 victory over Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, January 21 at the Cajundome.

Manley steered Louisiana (2-17, 1-8 SBC) in the first half with 14 points and then brought the Ragin' Cajuns across the finish line in the fourth quarter with a pair of clutch baskets and clutch free throws in the final minute.

With a three-point basket made to start the fourth quarter, Manley returned the lead to the Ragin' Cajuns for good at 49-47. Then starting with Kahlen Norris' second-chance triple on the ensuing possession her teammates began to create further space from the Chanticleers (9-11, 2-6 SBC).

By the time Stephanie Mosely scored a layup at 4:47, Louisiana was off to a 12-4 run to start the final period and had leapt ahead 58-51.

Manley steadied the advantage by picking up the loose ball off of a CCU turnover and scoring a layup at 3:21 to make it 60-53.

Coastal made a late charge rallying to trim the UL lead to 61-58 with 44 seconds remaining on a Paige Bradley layup, then Manley calmly stepped to the free throw line and converted the biggest of her 10 makes on the night hitting both free throws for a 63-58 edge.

Louisiana then got an immediate defensive stop with an Amijah Price steal which led to two Bianca Silva free throw makes at 0:38 advancing the lead out to seven points. Moments later it was Manley with two more free throw makes at 0:25 ensuring safe distance at 67-60.

The Chants made a desperate rally getting six unanswered points over the next 19 seconds off a second-chance triple and a three-point play off of a steal to cut the Cajuns lead to 67-66. Price responded with two free throw makes at 0:03 to take away the potential steal by Coastal.

Manley's team-leading nine points in the fourth quarter led a 23-point push in the final stanza that kept Louisiana on top in a contest that featured 10 lead changes prior to the start of the final 10 minutes of play.

Louisiana claimed its second straight victory over Coastal Carolina in the Cajundome and took a 3-2 lead over the Chanticleers all-time on its home court.

With Wednesday's game, Louisiana began a stretch of five consecutive games against eastern-based SBC teams.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Manley's career-best scoring performance marked a second straight game reaching 20 points, following up the exact amount she scored on Saturday at ULM. She had seven field goals made and shot 10-of-11 at the free throw line.

Norris joined Manley in double digits with her season-high tying performance and SBC-play best total of 14 points. In the decisive second half, Norris was 4-of-6 from the floor and provided 11 points.

Seven of the eight Cajuns who took the floor scored including Price who was the third player in double figures with 10 points.

Bianca Silva's seven rebounds led a group of five UL players that grabbed at least five rebounds. Manley and Price each had six rebounds while Norris added five boards.

Louisiana's defense held Coastal Carolina to 20 percent shooting from three-point range with a 6-of-30 showing, the six makes falling below their NCAA No. 16-ranked 9.1 triples per game. Overall, the Chants were limited to 32 percent shooting (20-of-63).

CCU was able to remain in reach with its second-chance opportunities, the team's 17 offensive rebounds leading to a 24-10 edge in second-chance points.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
Louisiana meets App State at the Cajundome on Saturday, January 24 in a 1:00 p.m. contest that wraps up the team's two-game, week-long homestand.

It's the only scheduled meeting with the Mountaineers (8-10, 1-7 SBC) this season. Live coverage is available on ESPN+ and The GOAT 103.3 FM and 1420 AM.

The Ragin' Cajuns will attempt to record back-to-back victories for the first time in the 2025-26 season and look to halt App State's three-game win streak in the all-time series.
