Ragin' Cajuns build commanding lead, then hold off Eagles' rally
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team came away victorious in its Spring 2026 season opener claiming a 4-3 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Jan. 10 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Indiana transfer Nikola Kolyachev made an immediate impact in his Ragin' Cajuns debut, giving the team a quick 2-0 lead by teaming with Darius Balan for the doubles-clinching point and then becoming the first to finish in singles action with a 6-1, 6-3 sweep of Harry Michalowski.
Fellow newcomer David Simeonov, a transfer from UIndy, advanced UL's lead to 3-0 with his win at No. 4 singles, but the Eagles stormed back and drew even after Jonathan Baron outlasted Leonard Tramolay (7-6, 3-6, 6-3) on Court 2.
That left it up to Court 5 where Cajuns veteran Samuel Kyjaci dominated in the third set by a 6-2 count to finish off Gustav Hasslegren.
