Yuhasz homers for third straight day; Amedee's four hits propel UL to eighth win in last 10 games
Lee Amedee went 4-for-5 with a double while Conor Higgs added a two-run homer as Louisiana (25-24, 15-9 SBC) collected at least one hit from all nine starters and claimed its 11th straight victory over Georgia State (24-25, 9-15 SBC) dating back to 2018.
JR Tollett (5-4) struck out six batters and scattered four hits in 5.0 innings for the Ragin' Cajuns with Dylan Theut and Blake McGehee combining to hold the Panthers to an earned run over the final 4.0 innings.
Louisiana trailed 1-0 in the first inning after Jesse Donohoe's two-out double before quickly tying the game in the second. Amedee, who recorded the first four-hit game by a Ragin' Cajun this season, led off the inning when he hit the first pitch from GSU starter Ross Norman (4-7) for a double before scoring on the following pitch when Caleb Stelly singled through the left side.
The Ragin' Cajuns took the lead in the third with a pair of unearned runs after Maddox Mandino reached on a throwing error to lead off the frame. Norman, who allowed nine runs in 4.1 innings, would get a pair of popups for the Panthers before Yuhasz belted a 2-and-1 pitch for his fifth home run of the season and third of the series.
Yuhasz would strike again in the fifth after GSU cut the lead to 3-2 when his one-out single drove in Brooks Wright and Drew Markle for a 5-2 lead. Higgs followed three pitches later with his 16th home run of the season for a 7-2 advantage before RBI singles by Jose Torres and Owen Galt helped Louisiana pull away.
Amedee recorded his third run of the day in the seventh when he singled to left, moved to third on Torres' one-out single and scored on Casey Artigues' sacrifice fly.
Kaleb Freeman went 3-for-5 with a double and solo home run to lead Georgia State, which dropped its seventh consecutive game. Donohoe, Carter Bailey and Nick Garagozzo each drove in runs for the Panthers.
Norman allowed 12 hits and seven earned runs for GSU before Jacob Crews and Nicholas Holbrook pitched the final 4.2 innings.
Louisiana will close out its 2025 road schedule beginning on Friday (May 9) when it visits No. 22-ranked Southern Miss in a three-game series in Hattiesburg, Miss.
