Appiah Earns SBC Field Athlete of the Week Honors

The senior posted a career-best performance in the decathlon with 6,695 points
LAFAYETTEÂ - Nelvin Appiah was named the Sun Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week after a big performance in the decathlon at the Doc Anderson Invitational the league announced on Wednesday.
Appiah won the decathlon with 6,695 points, a career-high, while also setting personal bests in seven of the 10 events. The senior finished in the top three in eight events and placed fourth and sixth in the other two events.
The senior won the discus (126-2/38.47m) and shot put (40-10.25/12.45m), with a personal record in both. He logged second-place finishes in the 100 (11.00), high jump (6-3.5/1.92m), 110H (15.21), and pole vault (12-0.25/3.97m). Appiah was also third in the long jump (21-4.75/6.52m) and the javelin (132-10/40.49m). He also posted career-best marks in the 400 (51.03) and the 1500 (5:13.69).
The Cajuns are back in action this weekend at the Alabama Relays beginning on Friday.
