Rubber game of three-game series set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

LAFAYETTE – No. 21-ranked Dallas Baptist used a six-run, second inning before pulling away from a 6-5 contest with four insurance runs to defeat the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 10-6, to even a three-game series on Saturday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
 
The rubber game of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the game in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
 
DBU (10-4) trailed 1-0 after Caleb Stelly reached on an error in the first, allowing Luke Yuhasz to score, before putting getting its first two runners on base to open the second. Tom Poole led off the inning when he was hit by a pitch from Louisiana starter Parker Dillhoff (0-1) before Michael Dattalo reached on a hard-hit infield single.
 
Joey Nerat's slow infield chopper to second was thrown away from an error, allowing Poole to knot the score at 1-1. Adam Berghult then followed with an RBI single to left and the Patriots would load the bases after Luke Heefner drew a walk to chase Dillhoff.  
 
Keaton Grady then greeted reliever JR Tollett with a two-run double into the right-field corner before Nathan Humphreys followed with a sacrifice fly and Chayton Krauss an RBI single up the middle.
 
Louisiana (7-8) attempted to get back into the game in the third after Stelly and Owen Galt each drew walks to chase DBU starter James Ellwanger. Reliever Jerrod Jenkins (2-0) came in and would keep the Ragin' Cajuns off the board as Conor Higgs' potential home run to center field was caught by Humphreys.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns closed the gap to 6-5 in the sixth, with Jose Torres driving in Galt with an RBI double before Yuhasz and Brooks Wright had two-out hits to drive in three runs and chase Jenkins, who scattered five hits in 3.0 innings of relief.
 
Tyler Schott and Ashton Branson would hold Louisiana to one hit over the final 3.1 innings with Branson pitching the final 2.2 innings to earn his first save.
 
Dillhoff cruised through the first inning, needing eight pitches to retire DBU in order before being pulled in the second. Tollett recorded his best game on the mound as a Ragin' Cajun, going a career-high 6.0 innings out of the bullpen and tying his career-best with five strikeouts.
 
Torres went 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead Louisiana with Wright going 1-for-4 with two RBI. Yuhasz was 1-for-4 with an RBI double for the Ragin' Cajuns, who stranded 10 runners on base.
