Louisiana Opens Outdoor Season at Cowboy Relays

The Cajun men look to build off of winning their first indoor title since 1996
LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana - Coming off a historic indoor season the Louisiana track and field team turns their attention to outdoor season beginning this weekend with the McNeese Cowboy Relays in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
The Cajun men captured their first Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championship since 1996. Lawson Jacobs dominated the event and earned the league's Track Athlete and Freshman of the Year. The Spring, Texas native ran a school and meet record 45.92 in the 400m and became the first Cajun to ever break the 47-second barrier in the event. Jacobs also ran the final leg of the 4x400m relay that clinched the championship for Louisiana.
Louisiana's women set three school records at the meet. Alaysha Veal set the school record and claimed the program's high jump record at 5-9.75. Alexandra Johnson set the 800m record at 2:10.03 while Ella Segura's 9:52.05 set the 3000m record.
The Cowboy Relays will feature field events (hammer, javelin, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put, and javelin) before an abbreviated running schedule of the 4x200m relay, 4x800m relay, 400m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 3000m, 100m, sprint medley, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 1500m, and the 4x400m hurdles in that order.
