LEADING OFF
>> Louisiana Softball, the five-time defending Sun Belt Conference champion, begins the 2025 season hosting the 39th Annual Louisiana Classics tournament from February 6-9 at Lamson Park.

>> Joining the Ragin' Cajuns for the tournament is 2024 national-runner up No. 1-ranked Texas, George Mason, Longwood and Seton Hall.

>> Louisiana officially opens the Alyson Habetz era on Thursday (Feb. 6) against Seton Hall in the tournament opener. For the first time since 2018, the Ragin' Cajuns take the field under new leadership.

>> The 2025 season will mark the first under Alyson Habetz's guidance. A celebrated Ragin' Cajuns student-athlete and renowned softball coach, she was named the fifth head coach in Louisiana Softball's storied history on June 25, 2024.

>> A native of nearby Crowley, Louisiana, Alyson Habetz ascends to the head coach ranks in her hometown area of the Acadiana region. A basketball and softball player for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1990-95, she returns to where her impactful contributions to women's athletics began.

>> Including the Louisiana Classics, the Ragin' Cajuns are scheduled to play their first 14 games of the 2025 season at Lamson Park - a stretch which keeps the team at Lamson Park through February 23.

>> The 2025 Ragin' Cajuns are led by four-year veterans Laney Credeur, Kayla Falterman and Maddie Hayden looking to leave their lasting imprint on the Ragin' Cajuns legacy.

>> Other key returning players include sure-handed shortstop Cecilia Vasquez who led the team in home runs in conference play last season and All-Sun Belt performer Sam Roe coming off career-highs in average (.320), base hits (58), and RBI (39).

>> Louisiana's roster is dotted by 14 newcomers out of the 24 total team members (58%).

>> The newcomers are highlighted by the eight additions Alyson Habetz and her staff made this summer that includes veteran pitchers Sage Hoover and Tyra Clary plus postseason experience in McNeese transfer Erin Ardoin.

>> UL welcomes a group of six first-time freshmen headlined by infielder Emily Smith who ranked Top 15 nationally among the high school ranks in home runs and RBI last spring.

THIS 'N THAT
>> Freshmen Mallory Wheeler (D1Softball and Softball America) and Emily Smith (Softball America) were named to national Freshmen Watch Lists.

>> Maddie Hayden, Sam Roe and Cecilia Vasquez represented the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team on the 2025 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team.

>> Louisiana was picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Ragin' Cajuns, who received the most first-place votes, were a mere three points behind Texas State for the top spot.

>> The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball program's rich tradition includes six Women's College World Series appearances, eight NCAA Super Regional berths and 33 NCAA Regional appearances which ranks as seventh-most in NCAA history.

>> Louisiana (45-19, 22-2 SBC in 2024) is coming off its 25th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance last spring which was highlighted by a national seed (No. 13) and host site at Lamson Park.

>> Louisiana is one of only six programs to appear in NCAA Tournament each year since 2000. The list includes: Alabama, Florida State, Oklahoma, UCLA and Washington.

>> The 2025 campaign marks the 45th season in the storied history of Louisiana Softball. The program debuted in 1981 and since has recorded 1,890 wins, a total that ranks Top 5 in NCAA history.
