Louisiana’s men claimed their first title since 1996 on Tuesday
LAFAYETTE - After winning the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championship on Tuesday for the first time since 1996, the Louisiana men's track and field saw Lawson Jacobs named the Male Track Performer and Freshman of the Year while Tommy Badon was named Coach of the Year.
Jacobs put on a show at the SBC Indoor Championships. In the prelims, the freshman broke the meet record in the 400m and was the top seed in the 60m. He would shatter the school and meet record in the 400m finals with a time of 45.92 to claim gold. He was also the anchor leg of the championship-clinching 4x400 relay team where he ran a 46.2 split. Jacobs wasn't done, also capturing silver in the 60m with a time of 6.72 seconds, 0.01 off the lead.
Badon, a Louisiana alum, coached Louisiana to its first Sun Belt Conference Indoor title since 1996. Louisiana won five events, its most since 2010. The Ragin' Cajuns won the 200m, 400m, and 800m while finishing second in the 60m and the mile. Badon led the Cajuns to 142 points to end Arkansas State's run of five straight indoor titles.
