Louisiana Returns to the Road for Another Round with ULM

Ragin’ Cajuns seek split of current road trip, look to preserve standing in SBC ledger

MONROE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team meets ULM in another February Saturday afternoon contest, this time as the visiting team when the squad takes on the Warhawks at 2:00 p.m. inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, Louisiana on Saturday, February 22.

The Ragin' Cajuns (12-13, 8-7 SBC) and Warhawks (10-16, 6-9 SBC) meet on Saturday afternoon for the second straight week. UL claimed an 80-60 win at Cajundome last Saturday (February 15).

Louisiana seeks to rebound after its three-game conference win streak was snapped at Texas State. ULM is coming off an 84-73 win over Troy in Fant-Ewing on Thursday that broke a five-game conference losing streak.

UL slipped to 1-2 in rematches with SBC western region foes this season after the Texas State loss, while ULM sits at 2-3 in rematches. Both teams defeated Troy at home the second time around.

The Cajuns seek a reversal in fortune on the road in SBC play, having lost five straight, to maintain its sixth place standing in the league and maximize the number of byes for the conference tournament.

Erica Lafayette continues her chase of the conference-play scoring title, her 17.9 average in SBC play slightly ahead of JMU's Peyton McDaniel (17.8) and Marshall's Aislynn Hayes (17.7). ULM's Jakayla Johnson is the fourth-leading scorer in SBC play, topping the Warhawks with 16.5 points per game vs. conference foes.

  • Entering Saturday, UL holds a one-game lead over Old Dominion and Georgia State for a spot in the Nos. 5-6 range in SBC Tournament seeding which provides three byes to start the event.
  • To maintain its place in the SBC standings, UL will need to break a five-game road losing streak in conference games (last road win in SBC play on Jan. 9 at USA).
  • Louisiana has won 20 of the last 21 meetings with ULM, including 11 straight at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
  • The Cajuns took charge of Round 1 with the Warhawks last week at the Cajundome by shooting 13-for-16 in the second quarter to widen the gap to 48-27 at the half.

  • Louisiana has lost only four times when scoring 60-plus, sporting a 12-4 record when hitting the mark.
  • Starting with career-bests of 24 pts at Coastal and 26 pts vs. Marshall, Erica Lafayette is averaging 20.2 ppg in SBC play in February. It's kept her competing for the scoring crown in league play, currently leading at 17.9 ppg.
