Louisiana Completes Season Series with Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team faces a quick rematch with Texas State, matching up for the second time over a one-week span when the two teams meet in San Marcos, Texas on Wednesday, February 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. inside Strahan Arena.

The Ragin' Cajuns (12-12, 8-6 SBC) and Bobcats (10-15, 4-10 SBC) meet on Wednesday night for the second straight week. UL claimed a 71-54 win at Cajundome last Wednesday (February 12).

Louisiana is coming off a two-game sweep of Texas State and ULM at home last week that stretched its conference win streak to three games and firmly planted the team in the top half of the Sun Belt standings.

To keep trending in the right direction in the battle for seeding in the upcoming SBC Tournament in Pensacola, the Cajuns will need to reverse their road troubles and snap a four-game road losing streak in SBC play.

UL is playing its best basketball, averaging 81 points and shooting 54 percent over the last three SBC games.

Erica Lafayette has led the Cajuns in scoring at 15.3 points per game, raising the figure to 18.1 in SBC play. Texas State relies on Jaylin Foster (11.4), Destiny Terrell (10.2) and Ja'Mia Harris (10.0) for scoring in SBC play.

BOUNCE PASSES

UL starts the second half of a series of four games involving Texas State and ULM, this time as the visiting team.
The first rematch is in San Marcos on Wednesday (Feb. 19), followed by the trip to Monroe on Saturday (Feb. 22).
Louisiana swept the first round of games against the Bobcats and Warhawks held last week at the Cajundome. The Cajuns will attempt to claim the season series sweep during both stops.
Wednesday's game marks the third of six straight against the SBC's western half to end the regular season.
Louisiana arrives in San Marcos with a season-high tying three-game conference win streak and riding the momentum of its best shooting stretch in SBC play, having shot 50-plus percent the last three games.
UL shot a season-best 57.9% vs. ULM last Saturday and is shooting 54% (95-of-175) the last three SBC games.
To maintain its momentum and place in the SBC standings with the chance of advancing higher, UL will need to break a four-game road losing streak in conference games (last road win in SBC play on Jan. 9 at USA).
Louisiana has won three straight vs. Texas State and goes for the season sweep for a second consecutive year.
UL punished Texas State with 42 points in the paint, a commanding 25-4 edge in points off turnovers, shot 50-plus percent and had a guard trio (Benedith, Lafayette, Robinson) combine for 49 points in last Wednesday's win.
Louisiana has lost only four times when scoring 60-plus, sporting a 12-4 record when hitting the mark.
Starting with career-bests of 24 pts at Coastal and 26 pts vs. Marshall, Erica Lafayette is averaging 21.5 ppg in SBC play in February. It's allowed her to close on JMU's Peyton McDaniel for the scoring crown in conference play.
Erica Lafayette scored at least 17 points each of the first five SBC games, and has reached double digits in 13 of 14 league games total, pacing her 18.1 ppg in conference play – a close second to JMU's Peyton McDaniel (18.3).
Skylah Travis has emerged as a presence in the front court this month, posting a double-double in two of the last three SBC games (Marshall, ULM) and averaging 8.3 points and 9.3 rebounds during the stretch.
Saturday vs. ULM, Skylah Travis posted an 11 point, 12 rebound double-double, topping it off with five blocks.
Nubia Benedith is shooting her best as a Cajun (41.0%) and generating her highest points average (9.1). Last Wednesday, she eclipsed 500 points at Louisiana and clinched her second 200-point season with the program.
UL's Sun Belt losses have come to teams that have a combined 56-14 conference mark (JMU, ASU, Troy, APP, CCU).
Cajuns rank Top 30 nationally in turnovers forced (20.8), turning foes over 20-plus times in 16 of 24 games.
UL has scored 25-plus off turnovers four times in SBC play and is averaging 20.1 ppg off turnovers in SBC play.
UL held its first five foes to 60 or below and has yielded 70-plus only four times (#4 LSU, Troy, Coastal, Marshall).

The Ragin' Cajuns are set up for another Saturday afternoon contest with ULM, this time on the road, when they face the Warhawks in Monroe, Louisiana on Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
