Oriol Fillat Gimenez ran his winning streak up to four in the effort
EUGENE, Oregon – Despite an early lead the Louisiana men's tennis team fell to New Mexico 4-3 on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon.
Louisiana opened the match by taking the doubles point. Oriol Fillat Gimenez and William Jade got the day going with a 6-2 win on two before Vasil Dimitrov and Calin Postea improved to 2-0 as a doubles pairing to clinch the point by a score of 6-2.
After splitting on courts one and two, with Fillat Gimenez earning his fourth singles win in a row on two, the other four matches came down to a third set. Samuel Kyjaci pulled put the victory on court five in a tiebreaker, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (5), but it wasn't enough as the Lobos took the matches on courts three, four, and six for the win.
Louisiana takes on Oregon tomorrow with first serve slated for 1 p.m. CT.
