Louisiana Wraps Up Homestand on Saturday

Ragin’ Cajuns look to maintain winning conference mark and position in standings
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team completes its four-game February homestand on Saturday, February 15 facing off with ULM in a 2:00 p.m. contest at the Cajundome. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Ragin' Cajuns are celebrating Senior Day with festivities being held after the conclusion of the game.

Louisiana (11-12, 7-6 SBC) started the second half of the homestand with a 71-54 win over Texas State on Wednesday, moving back above .500 in SBC play and strengthening its foothold in the top half of the league.

The Ragin' Cajuns, one of six SBC teams with a winning mark in conference play, have another opportunity to distance themselves from the bottom half as the regular season winds down.

ULM (9-15, 5-8 SBC) has lost four straight games and is in search of its first win in February.
Â
Erica Lafayette, a double-digit scorer in 12-of-13 SBC games, has been the mainstay for UL in SBC play. Nubia Benedith has hit double digits four of the last five SBC games and is now averaging 10.6 points in league play.

The Warhawks are led in points, three-point percentage, assists and steals by Jakayla Johnson.

The Ragin' Cajuns round out the current four-game stretch of games involving Texas State and ULM, hitting the road for the rematches in San Marcos (February 19) and Monroe (February 22).

Round 2 with Texas State is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19 at 5:00 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos, Texas. That will be followed by the stop in Monroe, Louisiana to complete the season series with ULM on Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m.

- Louisiana completes its four-game February homestand and celebrates Senior Day in a postgame ceremony.
- The Cajuns wrap up the first half of the current four-game stretch with Texas State and ULM. Play shifts to San Marcos (Feb. 19) and Monroe (Feb. 22) next week.
- Saturday's game marks the second of six straight against the SBC's western half to end the regular season.
- UL is in search of a fourth consecutive SBC win at the Cajundome. The team is 5-2 at home in SBC play this year.
- Cajuns have won 19 of the last 20 vs. ULM (since Feb. 2015), and hold a 20-5 edge in Garry Brodhead's tenure.
- Wednesday's win over Texas State returned Louisiana above the .500 mark in SBC play and strengthened the team's foothold in the top half of the standings. UL stands is sixth place entering play on Saturday.
- UL punished Texas State with 42 points in the paint, led 25-4 in points off turnovers and shot 50-plus percent for the second time in three outings on the current homestand.
- Louisiana has lost only four times when scoring 60-plus, sporting a 11-4 record when hitting the mark.
- Skylah Travis emerged as presence in the front court last week, her first career double-double (14 pts, 11 reb) vs. Marshall kicking off a week where she averaged 11 points and nine rebounds.
- Nubia Benedith is shooting her best as a Cajun (41.1%) and generating her highest points average (9.2). On Wednesday, she eclipsed 500 points at Louisiana and clinched her second 200-point season with the program.
- Erica Lafayette knocked down a game-high 11 field goals in registering her new career-high of 26 points in the February homestand opener. It was her sixth 20-point effort of the season.
- The 26-point showing vs. Marshall allowed Erica Lafayette to regain her spot as leading scorer in Sun Belt play at 18.2 ppg. It capped off a 25.0 ppg stretch (CCU, MAR) that allowed her to surpass JMU's Peyton McDaniel (17.0).
- UL set a season-high in points (92) vs. Marshall and eclipsed 60 points for the 10th time in 12 outings.
- Erica Lafayette scored at least 17 points each of the first five SBC games, pacing her 17.8 ppg in conference play.
- UL's Sun Belt losses have come to teams that have a combined 52-13 conference mark (JMU, ASU, Troy, APP, CCU).
- Cajuns rank Top 25 nationally in turnovers forced (21.2), turning foes over 20-plus times in 16 of 23 games.
- UL has scored 25-plus off turnovers four times in SBC play and is averaging 20.6 ppg off turnovers in SBC play.
- UL held its first five foes to 60 or below and has yielded 70-plus only four times (#4 LSU, Troy, Coastal, Marshall).
- UL led the SBC in scoring defense – and ranked Top 60 nationally – holding foes below 60 ppg the last two seasons.
