Ragin' Cajuns will wrap up West Coast swing on Monday at UC Davis
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The shooting woes continued for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Basketball team on Friday, as Santa Clara pulled away early with a 14-0 run and rolled to an 80-43 win over the Cajuns at the Leavey Center.
Sophomore Jeremiah Evans scored on a jump hook in the first minute to tie the game at two apiece, but Louisiana (1-5) wouldn't have another field goal until a bucket by Dorian Finister nearly eight minutes later.
By that time, the Broncos (6-0) used eight points from 7-foot-1 Bukky Oboye to spark the 14-point run that gave the Broncos a double-digit lead they would never relinquish.
Finister was the only Cajun to have a field goal in the final 19 minutes of the first half as Louisiana made just 5 of 21 field goal attempts in the initial stanza, with the Broncos rolling to a 38-15 lead at the break. The Cajuns' poor shooting continued after intermission, with just six field goals in the second half.
Christian Hammond led the Broncos with 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Oboye added 13 points in just 17 minutes of action. Allen Graves, a redshirt freshman from Ponchatoula, was the third double-figure scorer with 11 points.
Finister was the only double-figure scorer for Louisiana with 16 points. He had six of the 11 made field goals in the game for the Cajuns, who finished just 11-for-44 (25%) from the field.
For the first time this season, the Cajuns shot more free throws than their opponent, as Louisiana was good on 20 of 25 from the charity stripe, compared to 12-for-19 for Santa Clara.
Louisiana had a season high 18 turnovers on the night.
The Ragin' Cajuns will wrap up their three-game California swing on Monday when they travel to UC Davis (4-2). Tipoff will be at 8 p.m. CST, with pregame beginning at 7:30.
The game will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard locally on 96.5 KPEL-FM and worldwide on the Varsity Network App.
