Aggies Pull Away Late, Top Ragin' Cajuns, 77-56

Louisiana set to return home on Friday to face Jackson State
DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis broke open a close game in the final 12 minutes, beginning with a 14-3 run, and pulled away to a 77-56 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Monday night at the University Credit Union Center.
Louisiana (1-6) came back from a 15-0 deficit at the start of the game to draw within one point and trailed, 47-45, after a Milan Mejia 3-pointer with 12:30 to play. But UC Davis (5-2) would respond, scoring the next nine points to take an 11-point lead while holding the Ragin' Cajuns without a field goal over the next four minutes.
Nils Cooper led UC Davis with 18 points and 6-foot-9 grad transfer Niko Rocak added 16 as the Aggies placed five players in double figures.
Louisiana started ice cold, missing its first 10 shots as UC Davis opened the game on a 15-0 run.
The Ragin' Cajuns got on the board on Dorian Finister's jumper in the paint at the 12:28 mark before Joshua Lewis and Mejia fueled a first-half rally with a trio of 3-pointers, sparking a 12-2 run to get the Cajuns to within 23-20 with 6:08 remaining.
Jeremiah Evans added a layup to close the gap to 27-26 before the Aggies scored the last six points of the half to take a 33-26 advantage into the locker room.
The Ragin' Cajuns cut the lead to one twice in the second half, the last on an Evans' jumper with 17:19 to play, before an 8-0 UC Davis run helped the Aggies pull away.
Free-throw disparity continued to plague the Cajuns, as the Aggies were good on 22 of 32 attempts, while the Cajuns were 8-for-11.
Lewis scored 11 points to lead Louisiana, with Evans, Finister and Jaxon Olvera tallying nine points each.
The Ragin' Cajuns finished 20-for-60 (33.3 percent) from the floor, including 8 of 28 from beyond the 3-point arc. UC Davis finished 15-for-25 (60 percent) from the floor in the second half and made seven 3-pointers in 18 attempts for the game.
Louisiana will return home on Friday when it faces Jackson State in a 7 p.m. contest at the Cajundome. The game will be televised on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the game in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
