Louisiana has three indoor meets before the Sun Belt Conference Championships
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - The Louisiana track and field team opens the indoor season at the LSU Purple Tiger Invite on Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Ragin' Cajuns look to build on a strong 2024 when the women finished second and the men third at the outdoor championships. The men also had a terrific showing at the SBC Indoor Championships, finishing third, the team's fourth top-three finish in a row.
Louisiana looks to factor into the top of the Sun Belt Conference Championships with a strong group of returners. Three school record holders on the women's side return. Moe Bridgen, the defending SBC outdoor 400-meter hurdle champion and school record holder in the event, is poised for a big senior season. 800-meter record holder Alexandra Johnson also returns for her senior year while sophomore Lily Murray returns after shattering the school record in the hammer during the outdoor season.
They bring back two of their best in the indoor middle and long-distance events. Last season Joe Patterson ran the third-fastest 800 while Peyton Chiasson recorded the third-fastest indoor mile by a Cajun.
The Purple Tiger Invite gets going tomorrow at 9 a.m. with the women's weight throw. Running events start with the women's 60-meter hurdles. Other schools scheduled to appear are Hinds Community College, Louisiana Tech, Loyola (La.), LSU, McNeese, Meridian Community College, New Orleans, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, UTRGV, and Xavier (La.).
