Ragin’ Cajuns seek to remain near top of SBC standings
JONESBORO, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team begins a two-game road trip in Sun Belt play on Wednesday, January 15 meeting Arkansas State at 7:00 p.m. in the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Louisiana (8-6, 4-1 SBC) is also opening a stretch of four games solely against Arkansas State and Troy that wraps up the first half of SBC play. The first set of matchups occurs on the road from January 15-18 followed by the Red Wolves and Trojans return trips to the Cajundome from January 23-25.

The Ragin' Cajuns are battling the Red Wolves (8-7, 4-1 SBC) for the right to remain in second place in the SBC standings. The teams are presently involved in a five-way tie for second place.

The game features the Sun Belt's top two three-point shooting teams, both shooting 34-plus percent beyond the arc. Louisiana's 37 percent leads the league and ranks Top 25 nationally.

Erica Lafayette leads UL in scoring (13.9) and is the leading scorer in SBC play at 19 points per game. Kamryn Jones is coming off back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts including career-high 18 points vs. Southern Miss.

- The 4-1 start to SBC play is the best for Louisiana since the 2020-21 regular season championship campaign.
- Wednesday's game continues a string of six straight games against the SBC's western half.

- Through five SBC games, the Cajuns have upped their scoring average to 70.4 points per game (season average is 61.7) while improving their shooting to 46 percent.
- Louisiana ranks second with a +11.8 scoring margin (70.4-58.6) in Sun Belt Conference play.

- Erica Lafayette has scored double digits in eight straight games, averaging 17.4 points during the stretch. She's taken over the team lead in scoring at 13.9 points per game.
- Erica Lafayette has scored 17-plus all five SBC games, averaging 11.6 ppg in the first half in helping UL build a halftime lead each time. She is the current leading scorer in SBC play averaging 19.0 ppg.
- UL scored 60-plus the first three SBC games with Tamiah Robinson averaging 3.0 ppg and Jaylyn James, last season's leading scorer in SBC play (12.1), having not played.
- Tamiah Robinson had her SBC-play breakout the last road game (at USA), netting a career-high tying 22 points.
- UL's defense held USA's Amyria Walker, tied for the lead in scoring in SBC play (19.7), to two points on free throws.

- The Ragin' Cajuns rank Top 25 nationally in turnovers forced (22.1), turning the opposition over 20-plus times in 12 of 14 games, including forcing No. 4 LSU into a season-high tying 21 turnovers and Auburn into 25 miscues.
- UL held its first five foes to 60 or below, has yielded 70-plus only once and is holding foes to 59.7 ppg.
- In the first three SBC wins, UL's defense held foes to under 20 field goal makes and below 35 percent shooting.
- UL led the SBC in scoring defense – and ranked Top 60 nationally – holding foes below 60 ppg the last two seasons.
