LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana track and field team welcomed the addition of Lane Fletcher to the coaching staff the team announced on Friday. Fletcher will work with the team's pole vaulters and sprinters, and serve as recruiting coordinator.
Â
Fletcher comes to Louisiana after serving as an assistant coach at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was named the 2023 USTFCCCA South Region Assistant Coach of the Year after working with the field athletes for Lee. That season his athletes accounted for 40 percent of the team's 241 points to win the team title at the conference championships, including four event winners.Â
Â
Prior to Lee, Fletcher worked as an assistant at North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina for two seasons, working with NGU's sprints, hurdles, jumps, and pole vaults. He also spent time as a graduate assistant and interim assistant coach at Mississippi College.
Â
As a student-athlete at Shorter University, Fletcher won a Gulf South Conference Championship in the decathlon and was a Peach Belt Conference runner-up in the decathlon and open pole vault. A six-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree, Fletcher also was a Division II national championship qualifier in the 4x100.Â
