EUGENE, Oregon - The Louisiana track and field team is off to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA National Championships beginning Wednesday, June 5. The Ragin' Cajuns are scheduled to compete in three events this week, the 4x100, 400H, and the triple jump.
The 4x100 relay team opens the weekend with the semifinals on Wednesday. The team of Trejun Jones, Zakhy Munro, Floyd Pond, and Jamhad Booth qualified in Lexington, Kentucky after claiming the Sun Belt Conference Championship. Earlier this season the quartet broke the school record at 39.31, breaking the record set by the 4x100 team at least year's championships. It's the second year in a row that Jones and Booth will be running the 4x100 at the national championships.
Javed Jones will compete in the 400H for the Cajuns, looking for a spot in Friday's finals. Jones, the back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Champion in the 400H, holds the program record in the event at 49.44 at the regionals in Lexington.
Jeremy Nelson will have to wait for Friday for the triple jump finals. The 2023 champion and 2024 Sun Belt Conference runner-up set a huge personal best at the regional with a jump of 52-10.75/16.12 and had the best jump in his heat.
The semifinals of the 4x100 and 400H are scheduled for Wednesday night before advancing to the finals on Friday. The triple jump finals will take place on Friday.
