DeBarge Named D1Baseball First-Team All-America

Junior shortstop becomes second consensus All-American for UL on the diamond
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns shortstop Kyle DeBarge became the school's second consensus All-American on the baseball diamond when he was a named a first-team selection by D1Baseball, the website announced on Wednesday.

The All-America honor for DeBarge was his fifth for the 2024 season and includes first-team honors by both Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), second-team honors by Perfect Game and third-team honors by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

DeBarge, who joins UL Athletics Hall of Fame member Jace Conrad (2014) as consensus All-Americans for the Ragin' Cajuns, was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year after hitting .355 on the season with a school-record 21 home runs. The junior set a single-season school record for total bases (179) which was previously held by two-time All-American Jonathan Lucroy (175) while driving in 72 runs – the most by a Ragin' Cajun since Greg Blevins (75) in 1990.

Rated as the No. 1 shortstop nationally by D1Baseball, DeBarge finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in slugging percentage (.699), OPS (1.117), home runs (21), hits (91) and at-bats (256).

DeBarge, who joined Conrad (2014) and Blake Trahan (2015) in earning SBC Player of the Year honors, belted 13 homers and drove in 45 RBI in SBC games while becoming the first player in school history to break the 20-home run mark.
