Ragin' Cajuns tandem add to postseason honors
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana shortstop Kyle DeBarge and relief pitcher LP Langevin picked up more postseason honors on Friday as the 2024 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America teams were released by the organization.
Â
Both DeBarge and Langevin, who each qualified for the ballot after earning first-team ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors earlier this week, were named to the third team.
Â
First recognized in 1949, the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams are selected by the ABCA All-America & Coach of the Year committee.
Â
DeBarge, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, earned his third All-America honor of the week after being named to the NCBWA (first-team) and Perfect Game (second-team) All-America teams on Wednesday.
Â
The junior hit .355 on the season while setting school-records in both home runs (21) and total bases (179). The junior shortstop drove in 72 runs – the most by a Ragin' Cajun since Greg Blevins (75) in 1990 – while starting in all 62 games for Louisiana.
Â
Rated as the No. 1 shortstop nationally by D1Baseball, DeBarge finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in slugging percentage (.699), OPS (1.117), home runs (21), hits (91) and at-bats (256).
Â
DeBarge, who joined Jace Conrad (2014) and Blake Trahan (2015) in earning SBC Player of the Year honors, belted 13 homers and drove in 45 RBI for Louisiana in SBC games while becoming the first player in school history to break the 20-home run mark.
Â
Langevin, who earned third-team NCBWA All-America honors on Wednesday, posted a 6-1 record on the mound in his first season in a Louisiana uniform while leading the team with seven saves. The right-hander posted a 3.73 ERA in 23 appearances on the mound and struck out 106 batters in 62.2 innings of work.
Â
The Quebec City, Quebec native became the school's sixth player to earn SBC Pitcher of the Year honors joining Scott Dohmann (2000), Austin Faught (2005), Hunter Moody (2006), Carson Baranik (2014), Gunner Leger (2017) and Colten Schmidt (2018).
Â
Rated as the No. 5 overall relief pitcher by D1Baseball, Langevin finished as the SBC leader in strikeouts, fewest hits allowed (40) and fewest runs allowed (27). Langevin was tied for third in saves among SBC pitchers, seventh in ERA and tied for ninth in wins.
Â
The finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove team will be announced via Twitter by Rawlings Sporting Goods (@RawlingsSports) on Tuesday, June 18. The Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 19.
