Louisiana Drops Serie Opener To Red Hot Trojans, 16-5

Will Butcher homered while Troy (33-14, 15-7 SBC) capitalized off a shaky night on the mound by Louisiana (33-14, 17-5 SBC), which walked six batters, hit six batters and allowed multiple runs in four innings.
The second game of the three-game series is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the game in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Louisiana led 2-0 in the first inning as Kyle DeBarge's RBI double scored Luke Yuhasz before and Trojan error and sacrifice fly by Lee Amedee plated DeBarge.
After Andrew Herrmann retired the first two batters in the bottom half of the inning, Butcher reached on an error before back-to-back walks and Mock's eighth home run of the season gave Troy a 4-2 lead.
The Ragin' Cajuns trailed 6-2 after three innings before Duncan Pastore homered down the left-field line in the fourth off Troy starter Garrett Gainous (2-2). The Trojans responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame before adding a run in the fifth and four in the sixth.
DeBarge, who finished 2-for-4 to lead Louisiana, added a two-run homer – his 16th of the season – in the fifth for the Ragin' Cajuns. Luke Yuhasz added a first-inning double for Louisiana while Conor Higgs was 1-for-3 with a double.
Herrmann (5-3) allowed five hits and six runs – four unearned – in 2.0 innings for the Ragin' Cajuns. Gainous pitched 5.0 innings for Troy and scattered six hits and struck out five.
