Graduate transfer from Houston marks another veteran pickup for the Ragin’ Cajuns
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team announced the addition of graduate transfer Kamryn Jones, who's arriving from the University of Houston, to join the roster for the 2024-25 season.
Jones, a forward out of Magnolia (Texas) West High School, comes to Louisiana after appearing in 100-plus games over the past four seasons for Houston.
A two-time captain for the Cougars, she led the team in steals, was second in blocks and ranked Top 20 within the Big 12 Conference in both steals and blocks during the 2023-24 season.
"Kamryn (Jones) is going to be that prefect hybrid we will be able to rely on to do so much on both sides of the ball," head coach Garry Brodhead said. "Her ability to rebound, as well as defend, will be a great fit for our system."
Jones' four-year total with UH concluded with 400-plus points, 300-plus rebounds, 120-plus steals and 60-plus blocks. She produced 100-plus points and 100-plus rebounds each of her final two seasons with the Cougars.
Last season, Jones hauled in a career-high 123 rebounds, nabbed a career-high 56 steals and blocked 20-plus shots for the third straight season – all while competing in 30 games (29 starts) during UH's debut in the Big 12.
The performance was a follow up to a 2022-23 campaign in which she knocked down a career-best 67 field goals on 44 percent shooting leading to a personal single season-best of 159 points (5.5/game). She recorded three performances with 10 or more points and finished among the Cougars' top seven leading scorers.
A career 45 percent shooter, Jones elevated her statistical totals every season with the Cougars increasing amounts in points, rebounds, blocks and steals three years running.
Jones was a multi-sport athlete at Magnolia West HS. She enjoyed a banner year in 2019, being named District Defensive MVP, First Team All-District, First Team All-County, First Team All-State and the Greater Houston Montgomery County Player of the Year.
The signing of Jones marks the third newcomer announced for the 2024-25 season by head coach Garry Brodhead and his staff. She joins Senegal native Charlotte Carvalho (Grayson College) and Baton Rouge product Erica Lafayette (Rutgers) in signing with Louisiana.
The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off their fifth consecutive winning season highlighted by capturing the 200th win of the Brodhead era and making a run to the semifinals of the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championship tournament.
