Ribero’s Comeback Sends Louisiana to the SBC Semifinals

Louisiana heads to the semifinals for the first time since 2015
ROME, Georgia - Trailing 5-2 in the third set of the deciding match, William Ribero came back to win, sending the Louisiana men's tennis team to the Sun Belt Conference semifinals with a 4-3 victory over No. 74 South Alabama. The Cajuns outlasted the Jags in a match that lasted just over four hours at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
Louisiana fell behind early by dropping the doubles point. Ribero and Leonard Tramolay earned the doubles win, 6-4, on court three while the Jaguars took it on court one. Louisiana led 5-3 in a tiebreaker on court two, but South Alabama rallied to steal the doubles point, 7-6 (7-5).
Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez, 6-1, 7-5, and Samuel Kyjaci, 6-4, 6-3, made quick work of their opponents to put the Cajuns ahead 2-1. South Alabama bounced back to take the matches on courts four and six and put them a win away from sending Louisiana home.
After dropping the first set, Vasil Dimitrov bounced back to win his match on court three, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-3, leaving everything to Ribero on court two. The sophomore dropped the opening set before winning a tiebreaker in the second. In the third set, Ribero fell behind 5-2 before catching fire to clinch the match for Louisiana at 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5.
The Cajuns will face top-seeded No. 63 Georgia Southern tomorrow in a rematch from last Sunday. First serve of the semifinals is slated for 9 a.m.
