Tchanichev Earns Fifth Singles Victory at JMU

The sophomore is now tied for the team lead with five wins
HARRISONBURG, Virginia - Cristina Tchanichev earned her fifth singles victory of the year on Saturday at James Madison. With the win, the sophomore is now tied with Carla Urchoeguia for the team lead at five. Despite her efforts, it wasn't enough as the Louisiana women's tennis team fell to the Dukes, 4-1.
The doubles point went to the Dukes, who snapped the three-match winning streak of Kamea Medora and Nina Krecklenberg on court three, 6-4. Things shifted to singles where things were tight.
Due to the weather, the match was moved indoors with only three available courts. The Dukes took the matches on courts one and three but the Cajuns refused to back down. Tchanichev pulled out her win, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, to get the Cajuns on the board. Paige Duncan won her first set but dropped the next two, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, to clinch the match for JMU. On five, Angelique Berrat was heading into a third set while on six Krecklenberg trailed 3-2 when the match went unfinished.
Louisiana heads to Norfolk, Virginia to face No. 68 Old Dominion tomorrow.
