Louisiana has won four straight and six of their last seven matches
LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - After nearly three-and-a-half hours of action the Louisiana men's tennis team came away victorious, 4-3, over No. 56 Charlotte on Friday at Cajun Courts. The Cajuns have been red-hot of late, winning four straight matches and six of their last seven heading into next week's conference opener against Coastal Carolina.
The Cajuns opened the afternoon with a court one doubles win by Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez and Sacha Grandvincent. After the 49ers took the match on two, moments after court one wrapped up, Louisiana looked to grab the important doubles point. William Ribero and Mason Landreth did just that, pulling out the 7-5 win for the point.
The first singles point went to the visiting side. Vasil Dimitrov put the Cajuns back on top with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court four. Oriol Fillat Gimenez put Louisiana on the verge of clinching with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court five, taking the match on a perfectly placed ball down the line. Charlotte went on to win on court three, leaving it up to the final two matches.
Needing the last push for the win, Grandvincent trailed in the third set 3-1. The freshman battled back and won the last five games for the 6-0, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 victory and the upset.
Louisiana opens Sun Belt Conference play next Thursday against Coastal Carolina with a 10 a.m. first serve from Cajun Courts.
