The junior recorded his second-straight double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds
NORFOLK, Virginia – A career-high 17 rebounds and an efficient 12 points from Hosana Kitenge were enough for the Louisiana men's basketball team to hold off Old Dominion in a 68-60 win on Thursday in the Chartway Arena. The win is the fourth in a row on the road in Sun Belt Conference action for the Ragin' Cajuns.
Kitenge shattered his previous career-high on the boards, 11, with 17 along with 12 points, four assists, and two steals. It was the junior's fourth double-double of the season and his second in as many games.
Three other Cajuns finished in double figures. Kobe Julien led Louisiana with 14 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Themus Fulks added 13 points with six assists and five rebounds. Joe Charles finished with 11 points and six boards in the effort.
Louisiana (17-9, 9-4 SBC) started slow and saw Old Dominion (6-20, 2-11 SBC) jump out to an 11-6 lead seven minutes into the game. Coming out of the under-12 media timeout, the Cajuns caught fire and took control.
Charles gave the Cajuns the lead with a three after Fulks dove on the floor for an offensive rebound. Kitenge stretched the lead with a layup and Kentrell Garnett connected on a three for the 21-13 lead. Back-to-back threes by Michael Thomas pushed the lead to 11.
Two points by ODU followed by a Julien free throw kept the lead at 10. The Cajuns pushed the lead further on a three by Fulks and a bucket by Kitenge making it a 35-20 game. A late run by the Monarchs made it a 37-27 game at the half.
The Monarchs continued to climb back into it out of the locker rooms and cut the Cajun lead to just three before Garnett connected from deep. Fulks hit a pair of jumpers in the paint to put Louisiana ahead by 10.
The home side refused to go away, cutting the Cajun lead to just four with 5:21 to go but a 6-0 run by the Cajuns put things away for good down the stretch.
Next up for Louisiana is a road contest at App State in Boone, North Carolina. The Mountaineers lead the SBC with an 11-2 record and are 12-0 at home this season.
