Cajuns Face Top 10-Ranked Tigers Sunday in Baton Rouge

Louisiana faces first nationally ranked foe this season, tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
BATON ROUGE – With final exams now completed, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team returns to the court on Sunday, December 15 in Baton Rouge for a 2:00 p.m. contest against LSU at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

It's the second straight December that the Ragin' Cajuns (4-3) and Tigers (11-0) meet on a Sunday afternoon in the PMAC. Last year, the two teams were deadlocked at the halftime break.

Down to just two non-conference games remaining until Sun Belt play begins at the end of December, Louisiana is led in scoring by a trio of double-figure scorers in Jaylyn James (12.0), Erica Lafayette (10.7) and Tamiah Robinson (10.3).

The nationally ranked Tigers have an active 14-game homecourt winning streak, kept alive by an overtime win over Stanford on December 5, and have won 43 of the last 44 games at the PMAC. Flau'Jae Johnson (22.0) paces LSU in scoring, followed closely by Aneesah Morrow (18.0) and Mikaylah Williams (16.2).

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team returns to the Cajundome on Wednesday, December 18 to host Auburn in the program's annual Education Game, scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. tipoff. Nearly 6,000 Acadiana-area students are expected to be in attendance for the field trip outing.

The event is open to all students in grades K-12 and admission is free. Pre-registered classrooms receive a Ragin' Cajuns t-shirt, activity pack, and a discounted meal deal that includes a hot dog, fries, and drink.

After making three straight trips to Auburn since the 2018-19 season, including each of the past two seasons, the Ragin' Cajuns are hosting the Tigers in the Cajundome for the first time since December 2017.

The Auburn contest marks Louisiana's final non-conference game prior to the start of Sun Belt Conference play on the road on December 29 in Statesboro, Georgia at Georgia Southern.

BOUNCE PASSES
- Louisiana continues the stretch run of non-conference play, as only two games remain until Sun Belt action.
- The Ragin' Cajuns make a Sunday afternoon trip to Baton Rouge in December for the second straight season.
- Last year, UL battled LSU to a 28-all tie at halftime before the Tigers pulled away for their 30th straight win in the all-time series.
- The matchup with LSU is the first of back-to-back SEC outings before the Christmas break and start of SBC play. Next Wednesday (Dec. 18), the Cajuns host Auburn in the annual Education Game at the Cajundome.
- UL halted a two-game losing skid last Saturday, defeating Rice for its signature win in non-conference play.
- Erica Lafayette, one of two Cajuns to score 20 this season, hit the mark a second time with 20 points vs. Rice.
- Led by Jaylyn James' 12.0 ppg, UL has several scoring options with five players averaging at least 7.0 ppg.
- Seven games in, the Cajuns are averaging 12.1 offensive rebounds while yielding only 9.1 per game.
- UL held its first five foes below 60 points, has yet to surrender 70 and has held foes to 55.7 ppg so far.
- Louisiana ranks Top 50 nationally both in turnovers forced (22.4) and scoring defense (55.7).
- The Cajuns converted 47 percent of their first 53 attempts from three-point range, which ranked No. 1 nationally.
- The season opener at Northern Illinois was the only game outside the state of Louisiana until the Dec. 29 SBC opener at Georgia Southern. UL is currently in a stretch where eight straight games (five at home) are in the state.
- Louisiana has experience on its side with a combined nine players who are either a graduate or senior.
- UL led the SBC in scoring defense – and ranked Top 60 nationally – holding foes below 60ppg the last two seasons.
- SBC Championship all-tournament selection Tamiah Robinson, the team leader in assists (69) last season, now takes full control of the point guard position.
- Erica Lafayette (Rutgers) and Kamryn Jones (Houston) are a pair of P5 transfers expected to have a significant impact. The duo turned in 20-point double-doubles in the exhibition contest.
- Louisiana was picked 5th in the SBC preseason poll and Jaylyn James was a preseason all-conference selection.
